Renew Newcastle - creative use of empty shops and offices

I heard this interesting interview on Radio National's By Design program. A group of young creative people from Newcastle found an opporunity in vacant office space.

Renew Newcastle is an initiative to rejuvenate the centre of town, not by throwing millions of dollars at it, but by finding creative short- and medium-term uses for vacant shops and offices.

Blue Mountains Writers and Publishers Cluster

I attended a Writers & Publishers 'cluster' meeting yesterday. This is a scheme being championed by the Blue Mountains City Council that brings together like minded and competitor businesses.

Wayne Moloney did a great job facilitating the meeting, in which goals were set and projects started by teams within the group.

Web 2.0 Summit videos

Web 2.0 is a very misused term and has been relegated to the 'buzz word' bin by many. The crux of the idea is "network as platform" as explained by Tim O'Reilly the event organiser of the Web 2.0 Summit.

These videos from the recent Summit are really worth a look for an insight into what Bob Sutor from IBM describes as an "inflection point" in the development of the web. Other speakers include Al Gore and Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook. Shai Agassi discusses his electric car concept which has backing from Renault, Israel and Denmark! Interesting stuff.
